Myths of history

The history of humanity is full of myths that in most cases are recognised as crystal truth and even suggested for children at schools and universities. Those myths are usually mistakes of historians or simple desire of one to embellish facts. The greatest myth of history is a myth about first president of USA. If you ask someone who was the first president of USA you will for sure receive the only possible answer and that answer will be J. Washington. Though, a few people know that it is a greatest myth of American history. Indeed, Washington was the fifteenth president of USA. And the name of the first president was Payton Randolph. It is him who chose J. Washington as the commander of army. And, Mr. Washington was the first national elected president.
Another wide-spread myth is that it was Colombo who proved that the Earth is round. Though, it is not true. There was no way Colombo proved it as he believed that Earth is pear-shaped. He never managed to reach America and reached only the Bahamas, which are of peach-shape. It was a century 4 B.C. when people were already sure that the earth is not of flat shape.
There is also a myth about creation of periodic table which is of great use for all chemists. According to history it was a famous Russian chemist who created the periodic table. And it is true, it was him. The myth is about the process he did it. It is wide-known that Mendeleev saw the table in dream and then recordered it, though it is only a legend. In truth, Mendeleev spent a number of sleepless nights analysing and ordering elements. So, the periodic table is a result of the titanic work but not of the dream.
The story about Van Gauge, the story about he cut his ear of is another myth. It is a myth created by those who studied his biography. To cut the story short Van gauge had both his ears. Though, he was envy for another famous painter who was more successful then Van Gauge was. As a result of that envy the fight took place. And, during that fight Van Gauge cut of a tiny piece of his earlap. It did hurt though it was not the ears but just a tiny piece of it.
July 4th 1776 is an Independency Day of United States of America. You will be greatly surprised but it is also a myth. Well not actually a myth, the USA is the independent country though the date is wrong. The July 4th of the year 1776 was the day when Americans proclaimed themselves as the independent people of the independent country, though the official independency of the USA was recognised ob September 3rd of the same year.
